How Can Web Scraping Technology Help the Finance Industry?
Web scraping automates the extraction and aggregation of financial data, makes it easier to find stocks, and allows you to predict the market based on the information.
Finviz packs a stock's fundamentals into one snapshot table and runs a screener across US-listed stocks. Our Finviz scraper turns both into dated rows.

You send a ticker list or a set of screener filters, the tables you need and a schedule; we build the Finviz crawler, run it and repair it when the layout changes. The screener pages twenty rows at a time through an offset in the URL, so a full market pass is a long chain of requests that we pace, spread across rotating proxies and render where a table is drawn by script, with CAPTCHA handling inside the same service.
We work from the free pages, which show delayed quotes - a minute behind for stocks, fifteen minutes for futures and options - so every row carries its capture time and the delay stays visible. Results come as CSV, XLSX, JSON or JSONLines, by e-mail, SFTP or Google Cloud Storage, one-off or on a daily or weekly run.
Every Finviz quote page is addressed by its ticker (t=AAPL in the URL), and the ticker is the join key for everything else on the site. The header and the snapshot table under the chart hold most of the fundamentals a screen needs, one label per cell:
The stock screener shows the same measures as columns for many stocks at once, split into Overview, Valuation, Financial, Ownership, Performance and Technical views, so a full-market table and a single quote page share one schema in our delivery, with the stock price recorded at capture.
The quote page is one entry point among several. A Finviz news scraper reads the headline list on each quote page and the News section with its Market News, Market Pulse, Stocks News, ETF News and Crypto News tabs, keeping time, headline, source domain and ticker. The insider trading section lists Owner, Relationship, Date, Transaction, Cost, #Shares, Value ($), #Shares Total and a link to the SEC Form 4 filing, with Proposed Sale rows pointing to Form 144 notices. We deliver these as filing data per company and do not build profiles of the people named.
Groups aggregates the market by sector, industry, country and capitalization, with columns from Price/Earnings and EV/EBITDA to Performance (Year To Date) and Number of Stocks. The Calendar holds an economic calendar with event, category, importance, actual, forecast and previous; an earnings calendar with EPS and sales estimates, actuals, surprise and the one-day price reaction; and a dividends calendar with ex-date, ordinary and special amount and yield. The futures, forex and crypto pages list each contract or pair with last price, change, previous close, high and low - Crude Oil WTI, Gold, Coffee, Cocoa and Live Cattle among the futures.
Repeated runs add a time axis: a dated archive of snapshot values, screener membership and analyst targets, which is the Finviz historical data our delivery builds up.
Finviz is a US market research site built around a stock screener; its footer dates the site's copyright from 2007. Its menu reads Home, Stock Screener, ETF Screener, Maps, Charts, News, Groups, Insider, Futures, Forex, Crypto, Watchlist, Portfolio and Calendar, and nearly every table links back to a ticker.
The screener filters US-listed stocks through Descriptive, Fundamental, Technical, News and ETF tabs. Its screener filters cover exchange, index, sector, industry, country, market cap, P/E, EPS growth, insider ownership, RSI, moving averages, chart pattern and latest news, and the matches come twenty rows a page under a running total. The ETF screener works the same way for funds, with Single Category and Tags as columns.
The home page is a market summary built from tables. Signals such as Top Gainers, New High, Overbought, Unusual Volume, Upgrades, Earnings Before and Insider Buying sit next to chart-pattern lists from Channel Up to Head&Shoulders, market breadth with advancing and declining stocks and the share above SMA50 and SMA200, and a strip of futures, currency pairs and Treasury yields. The Maps section opens on the S&P 500 map. Finviz Elite, the paid tier with real-time quotes, sits on top; our collection stays on the free, delayed layer.

Learn how to use web scraping to solve data problems for your organization
Web scraping automates the extraction and aggregation of financial data, makes it easier to find stocks, and allows you to predict the market based on the information.
Data and analytics are opening the door to uncovering ways to combat financial crime based on smart data. And advanced AI analytics and cognitive techniques, machine learning, and automation will improve the inefficiency of existing investigative processes.
Leveraging advances in technology, the AI-powered web scraper has skyrocketed in demand and is helping to expand capabilities by automating tedious daily tasks and speeding up data collection from thousands of websites several times over.
ScrapeIt is a managed data extraction service: we write the crawlers, keep them working and deliver the output, so analysts start from a table rather than a parser. On a screener site like Finviz most of the work is keeping every snapshot label mapped to a stable field name and pacing long paginated passes. Names in insider rows are handled under GDPR. You get a free project assessment, a sample to check against the site and documentation for every field.
Yes. The ScrapeIt Finviz API returns the ticker, sector, industry, Market Cap, P/E, Target Price and Short Float of each stock as JSON from an endpoint we host, refreshed on your schedule. The same records come as CSV or XLSX files, through Amazon S3 or Dropbox, or loaded into your database. An MCP server is available on request.
Yes. The screener, quote pages, insider rows, Groups tables and calendars are open to any visitor on the free, delayed layer. We collect only publicly available data - everything a visitor can see on Finviz - and we collect it legally. Insider rows come from public SEC filings and stay filing data in our delivery.
Yes. We page the screener through each view you need - Overview, Valuation, Financial, Ownership, Performance, Technical - and merge the views on ticker, or visit each quote page for the full snapshot table. Filters can narrow the run to an index, a sector or a market-cap band.
Stock quotes on the free pages lag by about a minute and futures by fifteen, while fundamentals and analyst targets move far less often and insider rows arrive as new Form 4 filings are posted through the day. A run after the close suits snapshot work, the full screener can go daily or weekly, and extra runs are available on demand.
Yes. Each table comes as its own file linked by ticker: news with time, headline and source; ratings with date, action, analyst firm, rating change and price target change; insider rows with relationship, transaction, cost, shares, value and the SEC Form 4 link. Names in the insider table appear as filed, and we do not build dossiers on people.
