We run the whole collection job. You name the sections, the towns and the refresh rate; we build the crawler, run it on schedule and hand back clean, structured datasets as CSV, Excel or JSON.
The site is defended: parts of it, search endpoints among them, answer with a JavaScript challenge instead of markup, and a sustained request rate gets shut down. Anti-bot handling, proxy rotation and CAPTCHA solving are part of the service, along with adaptive parsing when the markup shifts.
Most sellers here are private individuals whose adverts show a first name. We collect advert and commercial data only - seller names, phone numbers and message routes are excluded by default.
Each Gumtree section fills its own attribute block, which is why a Gumtree scraper is built per category, not per site. Every advert shares a core:
Cars carry the deepest block: make, model, registration year, mileage in miles, transmission, fuel type, body type, doors, seats, colour, engine size, CO2, Euro emissions band, insurance group, mpg and Previous Keepers, beside a history check flagging stolen, scrapped, written-off and road-worthy status. Trade adverts add a VAT marker and finance figure. MOT is not a structured field - where it shows, the seller typed it in.
Property splits by intent: To Rent, To Share, Commercial, Parking and Garage, For Sale, To Swap, Property Wanted and Holiday Rentals. Its attributes are property type, bedrooms, bathrooms, date available and a price frequency flag of pm or pw - the same rent figure means a different amount under each. Deposit, furnishing and bills sit in the description, not in attributes, and are parsed from the text. Jobs carry salary text, hours, closing date, immediate-start and work-from-home flags and a company page link; pets carry age and a ready-to-leave date.
Beyond the advert body, what matters is how the site is addressed and how far it lets a crawler go:
What is missing matters as much: Gumtree shows no per-advert view counter and no seller trust score, so neither appears in what we deliver.
Gumtree.com is the UK classifieds board, launched in 2000 and run as one national site with local search on top. Seven sections carry the traffic: Cars and Vehicles, For Sale, Services, Property, Pets, Jobs and Community. Everything is in English, priced in GBP, and pinned to a town and county rather than a national catalogue.
The weight sits in used goods and motors. In September 2026 the For Sale section reported roughly 1.46 million live adverts and Motors roughly 386,000, with Jobs near 68,000, Property near 39,000 and Pets near 17,000. Services behaves differently: instead of an advert list it runs a directory of local trades - builders, plumbers, gardeners, electricians, roofers, locksmiths - where the call to action is a quote request rather than a posted price.
The brand also runs separate national sites. Australia, South Africa and Ireland are live on their own domains; the Polish and Singapore editions are gone and the New Zealand domain is parked. They are not mirrors of the UK site - Australia uses a different URL scheme and a different advert layout - so a crawler written against gumtree.com does not transfer. This page covers the UK site.
