You name the slice of autotrader.co.uk you need - vehicle types, makes and models, a postcode and distance or the whole country, trade stock or private sellers too - and how often it should be read. We design the search plan that reaches each advert once, build the extractors, operate them and mend them when the site's layout shifts.
Autotrader checks a browser before it serves a page and loads half of every advert only as the visitor scrolls, so browser rendering, proxy rotation, pacing and CAPTCHA handling are included in what you buy. A free project assessment comes first and a sample can be ordered. Files go out as CSV, Excel, JSON or JSONLines, by SFTP, Amazon S3 or e-mail, or the rows are loaded into your database.
Every advert has a numeric advert id in its address - under /car-details/ for cars - and that id is the row key. Around it the advert page is a set of panels named Overview, Ownership, Running costs, History check and Meet the seller, and the columns keep that structure.
Search results carry a shorter version of the same record, including write-off category labels such as Cat S or Cat N and the Reserve online mark. Number plates are not a field: the advert states the year and plate period, and that is what the dataset holds.
An advert shows today's price and today's label. It does not say what the price was last week, how long the car has been advertised or when it sold. A price tracker is built by reading the same advert ids on a schedule: first seen, each price change, each move between Fair, Good and Great price, and the run in which the advert is gone. That price history is what turns asking prices into time-to-sell and discount-to-sell figures.
Dealer reviews are collected as ratings and text. Reviewers' names, and the names and phone numbers of private sellers, are left out by default.
Autotrader is the United Kingdom's vehicle marketplace at autotrader.co.uk, run by Autotrader Limited from Manchester - a different company from the American Autotrader. The site now writes the brand as one word, though the older two-word spelling still shows in its notices, and many people still search for Auto Trader UK.
The site is divided into channels by vehicle type - cars, vans, bikes, motorhomes, caravans, trucks, farm and plant machinery - and the cars channel adds leasing, electric cars, expert car reviews and a buy-online route. Stock comes from dealers, which the site calls trade sellers or retailers, and from private sellers. The homepage search form prints a live count of adverts beside every make.
What Autotrader adds to a seller's advert is a layer of its own judgement. A car's asking price is compared with Autotrader's market valuation - built from make and model, age, mileage, fuel type and optional extras - and the advert carries the resulting price guide label wherever Autotrader has assigned one. A basic history check is run when the advert is placed and its results are printed on the advert, with insurance write-offs flagged by category. Dealers who hold high review scores over a year receive a Highly Rated award. Price label, check results and seller rating are what set a row of Autotrader data apart from a dealer's own stock list.

Full plan details →For the British used car trade, Autotrader car adverts work as a daily price list, and the label on each one says how that price stands against the market.
How to scrape Autotrader UK at that scale is our side of the work: the grid of postcodes and filters that finds every advert without counting it twice.

Learn MoreLearn how to use web scraping to solve data problems for your organization
Leveraging advances in technology, the AI-powered web scraper has skyrocketed in demand and is helping to expand capabilities by automating tedious daily tasks and speeding up data collection from thousands of websites several times over.
Web scraping is a method of obtaining web data by extracting it from pages of web resources with the help of a program, that is, in automatic mode. It is used to syntactically convert web pages into more usable forms.
If you specialize in machine learning, you need to feed large amounts of data to the algorithms. Web scraping is the easiest and the most efficient method of collecting the data from all over the Internet.
ScrapeIt is a web scraping agency: we design the crawl, run it and deliver the dataset, so your team spends its time on the numbers. Vehicle classifieds such as Autotrader UK change by the hour - adverts appear, reprice and sell - which makes the schedule and a stable advert id matter as much as the fields.
Dealers are businesses, and their names, locations and ratings are collected. Private individuals' contact details are not, personal data is handled under GDPR, and we do not sell contact lists of people.
Yes. The ScrapeIt Autotrader UK API returns advert id, make, model, derivative, price, price guide label, mileage, registration year, fuel type and seller type as JSON from an endpoint we host, refreshed on the schedule you set. If files suit you better, the same adverts arrive as CSV, XLSX or JSONLines, as a JSON feed, or go directly into your database.
Yes. Adverts, prices, price guide labels, basic history check results and dealer ratings are displayed to anyone who opens autotrader.co.uk, with no account needed. We collect only publicly available data - everything a visitor can see on Autotrader UK - and we collect it legally. We never sign in, and private sellers' phone numbers stay out of the files.
Dealers reprice whenever they choose, and the price guide label is measured against Autotrader's market valuation, so both are recorded on every run. Daily runs catch each change per advert id, while weekly runs are enough for supply counts and average asking prices. Every row carries its collection date, so the tracker can be rebuilt from the files alone.
Yes, both kinds. Dealer reviews come from retailer pages: the overall score out of five, the number of reviews, the star breakdown and the review text, without reviewers' names. Car reviews are Autotrader's expert verdicts, with an overall rating and category scores for each model.
Yes. Each vehicle type is a separate channel on Autotrader with its own search form, so each gets its own extractor and its own table. Shared columns - advert id, price, year, mileage, seller type and location - keep the tables comparable, and fields that exist for one type only are added to that table.
