Stepstone Scraper for Job Ads, Salary Ranges and Employers

Stepstone prints a salary range on many result cards, marked as an estimate for a full-time post. Our Stepstone scraper collects it with the ad, employer and skills.

How our Stepstone crawler runs

You tell us what to cover - job titles, cities and radius, a Fachdisziplin or Branche, a list of employers, or every ad for a region - and how often. We build the Stepstone crawler, run it and repair it whenever the result cards or the ad layout change. Pacing, proxy rotation, CAPTCHA handling and browser rendering are part of the service, so the only thing that reaches you is the data.

A free project assessment comes first: we work out which filters cut your scope into searches that can be read to the last page, then send a sample. If you only need to export Stepstone jobs once, for a market study or a pitch, a single extract does it; otherwise runs go daily, weekly or on demand, each with field documentation. Plans start from EUR 169 a month, or EUR 199 for a one-time extract.

Stepstone data we extract from every ad

Each row is one job ad, keyed on the numeric id Stepstone places at the end of the ad address, just before -inline.html. The id stays put while the ad is online, so a repeat run updates a row instead of adding a duplicate. What we collect:

  • Identity - job id, ad URL, the job title as written with its (m/w/d) gender tag, employer name and the link to its company profile.
  • Location - every city the ad names, often several in one string such as Stuttgart; Berlin; Düsseldorf, split into separate values, plus remote mentions in the title or location line.
  • Contract type and working time - the header facts: Feste Anstellung and other contract types, Vollzeit or Teilzeit, and the Homeoffice möglich flag; result cards add Teilweise Home-Office.
  • Salary - the range a result card prints, per year or per month, with its label geschätzt für Vollzeit kept in its own column; empty where the card shows no range.
  • Dates - the relative age on the card (vor 18 Stunden, vor 1 Woche) turned into a date, and the posting date and expiry date from the structured job data on the ad page.
  • Badges and application route - NEU, Schnelle Bewerbung, Anschreiben nicht erforderlich and Verifiziert as yes/no columns, and whether the ad uses quick apply on Stepstone or sends applicants Auf Unternehmenswebsite.
  • Ad text - the full job description under the employer's own section headings, the summary snippet from the result card and the industry tag.
  • Employer block - industry, company size band, review count and the number of open jobs shown beside the ad.

Many ads close with a contact person's name and e-mail address. That is personal data: we leave it out by default and handle anything personal under GDPR. Candidate profiles and CVs are never part of a Stepstone delivery.

Stepstone data we extract from every ad
Building a Stepstone dataset beyond the single ad

Building a Stepstone dataset beyond the single ad

A search reports its total as Treffer and offers filters with live counts: Erscheinungsdatum, Gehalt, Arbeitsplatztyp, Fachdisziplin, Anstellungsart, Fähigkeiten, Berufsfeld, Branche, Städte, Region, Land and Bewerbungsart. We use them twice - to cut a large search into slices that can be read to the end, and as data. Running a query per value of Fähigkeiten turns that facet into skills tags on each ad (Kommunikation, Datenanalyse, SQL, Python and so on); running it per Bewerbungsart separates quick apply from ads that send you to the employer.

Company profiles under /cmp/de/ add the employer layer: Branche, Unternehmensgröße, Gegründet, Adresse, the Über uns text, the review count and every open position of that employer, with job lists per city. Stepstone's salary pages under /gehalt/ give a median with a minimum and maximum per job title and city - a benchmark to set beside the ranges printed on the ads.

Repeat runs keyed on the job id produce what one snapshot cannot: when an ad appeared, when it went offline, how long a role stayed open and whether its salary range moved in between.

How stepstone.de is organised

stepstone.de is the German board of The Stepstone Group, which also runs sister boards such as stepstone.at for Austria, stepstone.be for Belgium and stepstone.nl for the Netherlands, each with its own ads. The German site is not limited to Germany either: its Land filter also counts ads in countries such as Österreich and the USA, and its location pages reach Austrian provinces such as Tirol and Steiermark.

Search works in two modes: the classic form and a free-text mode called In eigenen Worten, where a visitor describes the wanted job in a sentence. Search addresses are readable - /jobs/data-analyst/in-berlin - and default to a 30 km radius. Browse lists lead in by occupational field, city, job title and well-known employers (Jobs bei bekannten Unternehmen).

An ad has two layers. The header is uniform: title, employer, cities, contract type, working time, the Erschienen date and a Gehalt anzeigen button. Below it each employer writes in its own structure and voice, so section headings change from ad to ad - Was dich erwartet, Was wir erwarten and Wir bieten on one, an opening Unternehmensbeschreibung on the next. For data work the header is what you compare across employers, and the body is where skills, tools and benefits are mined.

What Stepstone scraping is used for

Web scraping Stepstone gives a running view of professional hiring in Germany. The home page leads with IT and Tech, Engineering and Technology, and HR and Personnel, a hint at where the board is strongest.

  • Salary benchmarking. The estimated range on the card, read across one job title in several cities, gives a pay band per market; the medians on Stepstone's salary pages give a second reading.
  • Hiring demand by employer. Counting ads per company profile week by week shows who is expanding, who has paused recruiting and which locations are growing.
  • Skills tracking. Skill tags and description text show how often SQL, Power BI or Python are asked for in a role and how that shifts over a quarter.
  • Flexible work share. Homeoffice möglich, Teilweise Home-Office and Teilzeit flags measure how flexible a sector really is, city by city.
  • Recruiting market intelligence. Staffing agencies and HR software vendors use new-ad counts, NEU badges and time to close to size demand and find employers that are hiring.

How Artificial Intelligence Is Used In Web Scraping

How Artificial Intelligence Is Used In Web Scraping

Leveraging advances in technology, the AI-powered web scraper has skyrocketed in demand and is helping to expand capabilities by automating tedious daily tasks and speeding up data collection from thousands of websites several times over.

What is Web Scraping and What is it Used For?

What is Web Scraping and What is it Used For?

Web scraping is a method of obtaining web data by extracting it from pages of web resources with the help of a program, that is, in automatic mode. It is used to syntactically convert web pages into more usable forms.

Web Scraping for Machine Learning

If you specialize in machine learning, you need to feed large amounts of data to the algorithms. Web scraping is the easiest and the most efficient method of collecting the data from all over the Internet.

About ScrapeIt

ScrapeIt is a managed web scraping service: we build, run and maintain the crawlers and hand over the data. Stepstone ads have quirks worth keeping - gender tags in titles, several cities in one location string, salaries shown as an estimated band. We keep each of them in its own column instead of flattening it, and deliver as CSV, Excel, JSON, by SFTP or into your database. An MCP server is available on request.

FAQ

Do you offer a Stepstone API for job ads and salary ranges?

Yes. The ScrapeIt Stepstone API returns the job id, title, employer, cities, contract type, the estimated salary range and the posting date as JSON from an endpoint we host, refreshed on the schedule you set. Think of it as a Stepstone jobs API scoped to your own searches. The same data also comes as CSV or XLSX files, a JSON feed or straight into your database.

Is it legal to scrape Stepstone?

Yes. Ads on stepstone.de are open to any visitor: title, employer, cities, contract type, the salary estimate on the result card and the full description need no account. We collect only publicly available data - everything a visitor can see on Stepstone - and we collect it legally. Recruiter names and e-mail addresses are left out by default.

Can you cover stepstone.at, stepstone.be and stepstone.nl as well?

Yes. The sister boards for Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands hold separate ad sets, so each one is crawled on its own and delivered with a country column on the same schema as stepstone.de. On the Belgian board ads appear in Dutch, French or English, and we keep every title in the language it was written in.

How often should a Stepstone dataset be refreshed?

Daily for most uses. Result cards date ads in hours and days, the Erscheinungsdatum filter has a Neuer als 24h slice, and the structured data of every ad carries an expiry date. Reading that last-24-hours slice each morning keeps a market current, and a weekly full pass catches edits and removals.

Does every Stepstone ad come with a salary?

No. Many result cards print a band, per year or per month, labelled geschätzt für Vollzeit, while others show nothing. We deliver the range where the card shows it, keep the label in its own column and leave the field empty rather than guessing. Stepstone's salary pages can add a median per job title and city for comparison.
