App Store Scraping as a Managed Service

ScrapeIt runs App Store collection as a managed service: there is nothing to install and no crawler to maintain on your side. You name the apps, categories, charts and country storefronts and say how often you need them; we build the crawlers for apps.apple.com, run them and repair them when the page layout changes.

One app has a separate page in every storefront, so a full crawl multiplies quickly; request pacing, proxy rotation and rendering are part of the service. Every project starts with a free assessment, and a sample can be ordered before you commit. Each row is stamped with the storefront code and the numeric app id, and field documentation comes with the dataset. Plans start from EUR 169 a month, or EUR 199 for a one-time extract.

Fields in an App Store Dataset

An App Store page is long, and almost every block on it is a labelled field. We take the blocks as the store shows them and return one row per app and storefront, keyed by the numeric id that closes every app address.

  • Identity - app id, URL, storefront code, app name, subtitle and icon. The name is localised: one game is listed under a different title in the United States, in Britain and in Germany, while the id stays the same.
  • Price - Free or the price in the storefront currency, with the In-App Purchases marker beside it.
  • In-app purchases - the list in the Information block, each item with its name and price.
  • Ratings - the average out of five, the number of ratings and the five-bar star breakdown.
  • Chart and awards - the chart badge with rank and category, such as number one in Music, and the Editors' Choice award.
  • Developer and seller - developer name with the link to its page, the Seller line, copyright, and the links to the developer website and privacy policy.
  • Technical details - size, category, compatibility with the minimum system version per device, languages, and the Supports list with entries such as Siri, SharePlay or Game Controllers.
  • Age rating - the rating itself (4+, 9+, 13+ and so on) with its content descriptors.
  • Version history - the releases listed under What's New: version number, date and release notes.
  • App Privacy - the labels Data Used to Track You, Data Linked to You and Data Not Linked to You, with the data types under each.
  • Content - description, screenshots by device, the Events block, Featured In stories and the two recommendation shelves, More by the developer and You Might Also Like.

The store is split by platform - iPhone, iPad, Mac, Vision, Watch and TV - and one schema covers iOS apps and the rest. Files arrive as CSV, Excel or JSON.

Reviews, Charts and Search Results Beyond the App Page

Reviews, Charts and Search Results Beyond the App Page

The app page is one record. Most projects need the lists around it, and the same lists again next week.

  • Reviews. Each storefront has its own Ratings & Reviews page for an app, and it shows a selection of reviews, not the full history. A review carries a title, a date, a star rating and the text, and where the developer answered, the Developer Response sits under it. We scrape App Store reviews per country and keep every review a run finds, so the archive grows as the selection changes. Reviewer nicknames are personal data and are left out by default.
  • Charts. On iPhone and iPad, Top Free and Top Paid exist for all apps, for all games, and for each of the categories and game genres. Mac charts are split by category, and Watch and TV each have one free and one paid chart. All of them are kept per country, and a daily run turns rank, app id and chart name into a ranking history.
  • Search results. A keyword returns an ordered list of apps with name, subtitle and rating count - the raw material for tracking where an app stands for a search term in the web store.
  • Developer pages. Every developer has a page that lists its apps by platform, which gives a portfolio view of one publisher.
  • History. Prices, in-app purchase lists, rating counts and versions are stored with a date on each run, so price history and release cadence come out of the same table.

About the App Store and Its Country Storefronts

The App Store is Apple's shop for software on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Vision Pro, and its catalogue is open to read on the web at apps.apple.com without an Apple account. For a data buyer the first thing to understand is that it is not one store. The country selector lists 175 storefronts, and the two-letter code in the address - us, gb, de - decides nearly everything you see.

An app keeps one numeric id everywhere, but its name, subtitle, description and screenshots are localised, its price is set in the storefront currency, and its ratings are counted per storefront: an app with tens of millions of ratings in the United States shows a far smaller figure and a slightly different average in Germany. Reviews and chart positions are per storefront too, and some storefronts can be read in more than one language.

On the iPhone and iPad views the web store is organised into Today, Games, Apps and Arcade; a Platform switch leads to the Mac, Vision, Watch and TV views, which have tabs of their own. Today and the front pages of Apps and Games are editorial: stories, collections and editors' picks. Charts are the measured part - on iPhone and iPad, Top Free and Top Paid for every category from Books and Business to Utilities and Weather, and for every game genre from Action to Word.

Why Scrape App Store Data

An app page is the one view of a product that every competitor publishes in the same format, in every country, and updates on every release. That makes it comparable in a way few sources are.

  • Competitor tracking. Version history shows how often a rival ships and what each release claims; the in-app purchases list shows how it packages subscriptions and what each tier costs.
  • Prices by country. An app and its in-app purchases are priced separately in every storefront. One table across countries shows where a competitor is cheap and where your own pricing is out of line.
  • Review mining. Star ratings with dated review texts feed sentiment analysis and show which complaints and feature requests come up in each market. Developer responses show how a competitor's support reacts.
  • Chart and keyword visibility. Daily chart ranks and search positions measure the effect of a launch, an editorial feature or a campaign, country by country.
  • Market maps. Category, age rating, size, languages and privacy labels across a whole category of App Store listings describe a niche before you build for it, and show investors which publishers are growing.

About ScrapeIt

ScrapeIt is a managed web scraping agency: clients describe the data they need, we build and run the crawlers and deliver the dataset. App stores are a natural fit for that model - a catalogue repeated in every country, counters that move daily and pages whose layout changes without notice.

We collect only what the App Store shows to any visitor. We never log in, we treat personal data in line with GDPR, and reviewer nicknames are not part of the files by default.

FAQ

Do you offer an App Store API for app and review data?

Yes. The ScrapeIt App Store API returns app id, name, price, rating average, rating count, chart rank and version history for the storefronts you choose as JSON from an endpoint we host, refreshed on the schedule you set. The same data also comes as CSV or XLSX files, a JSON feed or straight into your database.

Is it legal to scrape the App Store?

Yes. App pages, charts, search results, ratings and reviews are published on apps.apple.com for anyone to read without an Apple account. We collect only publicly available data - everything a visitor can see on the App Store - and we collect it legally. Reviewer nicknames are personal data, so they are left out by default.

How does your App Store review scraper handle several countries?

Reviews are kept per storefront, so we read the review page of an app in each country you name and tag every row with the storefront code. Each review comes with its title, date, star rating, text and the developer response where one exists. A storefront shows a selection of reviews, not the whole history, so the archive is built by repeated runs across countries, and you can export App Store reviews as CSV, Excel or JSON.

Can you run an App Store price tracker across countries?

Yes. On each run we record the app price and every listed in-app purchase per storefront in its local currency and keep the dated rows. That is how you track App Store price history: by app, by country and by purchase item, with one dated row per run.

How often should App Store charts and ratings be refreshed?

Chart ranks are the fastest-moving field, so ranking work calls for one run a day per storefront, platform and category. Rating counts, averages and the reviews on show drift slowly and are fine weekly, while version history is worth reading after each release of the apps you follow. You set the schedule - daily, weekly or on demand - and can change it per list.

How does it Work?
