Petco Scraper for Price, Stock and Service Data

Petco quotes the same bag of kibble three ways - a shelf price, an Autoship price five percent under it and a separate in-store pickup price - and never prints the cost per pound.

How we run a Petco scraping project

Petco is closed to automated clients: the storefront answers a plain request with a challenge page rather than a product. Getting past that is our job, not yours. Anti-bot handling, proxy rotation and CAPTCHA solving are part of the service, along with the residential exit points a United States catalog needs and the store binding that makes pickup and same-day availability meaningful.

We scope a Petco crawl the way the site is built. Catalog coverage is cut by species, category branch and brand; store-level work is cut by state, city and service type; service pricing is cut per location. Delivery is CSV, JSON, NDJSON, Parquet, a Google Sheet, a database table or an endpoint your systems call on a schedule, with change logs so a price move is visible without diffing whole files. We stay on public pages - nothing behind a login, no personal data on reviewers or staff, no medical records.

Petco price data: shelf, Autoship, pickup and list

A single Petco row carries four money fields, and dropping any of them breaks the series. List price is the struck-through manufacturer figure, the shelf price is the advertised one-time price, the Autoship price is the same item on a repeating order at five percent less, and a separate pickup price is attached to buy-online-pick-up-in-store. A first Autoship order takes a deeper introductory cut capped in dollars. What Petco never prints is a cost per pound: pack weight is a variant attribute with a numeric value, so the per-unit figure has to be derived.

Identity is layered. The digits closing the product address are the part number, the SKU a cashier scans. Above it sits a parent part number binding the variants together and doubling as the review platform's key. Below it every buyable variant has its own catalog entry id, price block and stock count, and retail goods publish a twelve-digit UPC. Variants run on named merchandising attributes - Weight on food, Flavor, Size and Color elsewhere - and each value carries a sequence number and a numeric form, so a scraper sorts bag sizes without parsing the label.

Fulfilment is three lanes on one card, each with its own availability state and promotional line: Pickup, same-day Delivery and Ship to Me. Pickup is switched off entirely in Hawaii and Alaska. Around them sits a row of boolean flags: pickup eligible and pickup restricted, same-day eligible, Autoship eligible, prescription, prescription food, insulin, in-store only, online only, recalled, discontinued, live animal, frozen, grain free, organic, vegetarian, limited ingredient, freight and a California Proposition 65 warning slot.

Consumables carry a nutrition block most shops leave out. Beside the ingredient list Petco prints a guaranteed analysis string - crude protein, crude fat, crude fibre, moisture, calcium, phosphorus, omega-3 and omega-6, glucosamine, live cultures - plus feeding directions and specification tables for features, dimensions and pet sizing. Ratings come from a syndicated review platform keyed on the parent part number, and many reviews are pulled in from the brand's own site with the source named, so the count on Petco is not the count written on Petco.

Past the shelf: Vetco rates, grooming prices and salon hours

Petco publishes in-store services as separate entities with their own hours and price lists. The locator carries a page per store per service, so one address appears five or six times: pet supplies store, grooming salon, dog training venue, aquatics department, vaccination clinic and, at a minority of sites, a Vetco Total Care hospital. Petco currently runs 1,377 stores across all fifty states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico; roughly 1,300 list a grooming salon and about 1,240 a vaccination clinic, against 289 hospitals, on the locator in September 2026.

Grooming rates are printed per salon: walk-in and appointment tabs, a starting bath price and a higher bath-and-haircut price, priced add-ons for routine care, fleas, shedding and calming, and single services - nail trim, teeth-brushing, ear cleaning, gland expression - each with its own price. Salon hours are held separately from store hours and often close earlier.

Clinics vary more. Each publishes dog and cat packages, the vaccines and tests inside them, the saving against a la carte, single prices for rabies, distemper and parvo, lepto, bordetella, Lyme, canine influenza and rattlesnake, plus heartworm and fecal tests, dewormers, microchipping and preventives priced by weight band and dose. Package names are not national either - one clinic sells a numbered puppy visit series, another differently named tiers at other prices - so the national picture exists only if every clinic page is read. Training is quoted centrally: six-week group classes at four levels and forty-five minute private lessons sold singly or in blocks.

How the Petco catalog is split by species, brand and store

Petco is a United States pet specialty chain listed on Nasdaq as WOOF and run out of San Diego, where it started in the mid-1960s as UPCO, a mail-order veterinary supplies house, and took the Petco name late in the 1970s. The shop is organised by animal before it is organised by department: Dog, Cat, Fish, Small Pet, Reptile and Bird, plus a Farm and Feed aisle for chickens, horses, pigs and waterfowl, and a My Human shelf for the owner. Each branch resolves into a three-level path like /category/dog/dog-food/dry-dog-food, and every node on it carries a numeric category id next to the readable slug.

Two more axes cut across the species tree. Brand pages live under /brand/ and are scoped rather than global, so one label splits into a dog page and a cat page, and a prescription label lands under a dog-rx branch of the pharmacy. Species shops go finer still - Bearded Dragon, Ball Python, Leopard Gecko, Crested Gecko and Tortoise on the reptile side; Conure, Cockatiel, Parakeet, Lovebird and Finch on the bird side; Guinea Pig, Rabbit, Hamster, Ferret and Chinchilla among small pets. Petco house labels sit in the same namespace as the national ones: WholeHearted, Reddy, So Phresh, EveryYay, Youly, Imagitarium, Healthy Select and You and Me.

Live animals are stock, not decoration. Freshwater and saltwater fish, reptiles, birds and small pets are sold as catalog rows with their own taxonomy string and their own review counts, while dogs and cats are never sold - they move through in-store adoption events with Petco Love partners, so an adoptable animal is not a product record at all. Store profiles live on a separate host at stores.petco.com, one page per location per service, and Petco Mexico runs on its own storefront and domain.

Who extracts Petco product data and what they do with it

The first buyer is the pet brand itself. Petco is where a national label meets its own shelf, and the questions are blunt: is my recipe listed in every bag size, is the pack shot the current one, did the retailer quietly cut my list price, and how does my Autoship discount read next to the competing label on the same aisle. Because Petco Perks pays triple points on house labels and shows members-only prices, share of shelf against WholeHearted, Reddy and So Phresh is a standing measurement, and a signed-out crawl records the public price, not the member one.

The second buyer is anyone pricing against the wider pet market. A shopper comparing a bag at Petco with Chewy and Amazon is comparing four numbers to four numbers, and only a machine keeps that straight across thousands of SKUs and pack sizes. Teams scrape Petco to hold a daily price index by brand, recipe and bag size, to watch how far the recurring delivery discount really moves the effective price, and to catch clearance and promotional windows while they are still open.

The third buyer works at store level. Assortment differs by location, pickup and same-day delivery are decided per store, and a category manager planning distribution wants to know which of the physical locations actually stock a line and which service departments they run. Add the pharmacy branch - heartworm, flea and tick, arthritis, allergy, thyroid, antibiotics and veterinary diets for dogs, cats and horses - and the same crawl feeds animal health pricing work that has nothing to do with kibble.

Working with ScrapeIt on Petco data

ScrapeIt is a managed web scraping agency, not a self-serve tool. You describe the slice of Petco you need - a brand, a category branch, a list of states, the whole pharmacy - and we return a maintained feed on your schedule. When Petco renames a program, moves a URL pattern or changes a field, we fix the pipeline; you keep receiving the same columns.

Start with a sample. We run a pilot on a narrow slice, you check the fields against the live site, and only then do we agree scope, frequency and format.

FAQ

Does Petco have a public API for product and price data?

No. There is no public Petco API for the catalog, no developer portal and no published product feed. The storefront talks to its own internal JSON services, but those are undocumented, unversioned and closed to outsiders. The affiliate program runs on a third-party network and hands partners tracking links and performance reporting - it does not hand over a product database. If you need Petco data as a structured feed or an endpoint of your own, it has to be built from the public pages, which is what we deliver.

Which fields can you extract from a Petco product page?

Part number, parent part number, catalog entry id, UPC, product name, brand, breadcrumb category with its numeric id, description and bullet details, all four price fields, variant attributes with their numeric values, stock count and status, the pickup, same-day and shipping states, every eligibility flag, images, ingredients, guaranteed analysis, feeding directions, specification tables, rating value and review count. On consumables the nutrition block is the part buyers ask for most, and it is why a Petco scrape is worth more than a price list.

Can you get stock and pricing for one specific Petco store?

Yes, within what the site itself decides. Pickup and same-day delivery are resolved against a selected store, so the crawl is bound to a store number and the same SKU is collected separately per location. Pickup is switched off in Hawaii and Alaska regardless. Service pricing is genuinely local: grooming rates and vaccination clinic packages are published per site and differ between them, so we crawl the location pages rather than assuming a national rate card.

How often can a Petco feed refresh, and in what formats?

Frequency follows what actually moves. Prices, promotional badges and stock justify a daily or intraday run on a watchlist; a full catalog sweep with ingredients, guaranteed analysis and reviews usually runs weekly or monthly; store and service data changes slowly and a monthly pass is enough. Output is CSV, JSON, NDJSON, Parquet, a Google Sheet, a warehouse table or a scheduled endpoint, with change logs so you see what moved between runs.

Is it legal to scrape Petco, and do you collect personal data?

We collect only pages any visitor can open without signing in: catalog, listings, brand pages, store profiles and service pricing. We do not create accounts, do not log in, and do not touch order history, prescriptions or anything behind a customer account. Personal data is out of scope by default - reviewer names, staff names in testimonials and anything resembling a medical record are dropped at collection. If your legal team wants a documented scope before we start, we will write one.
