BritBox is seven catalogues under one brand. Rights are bought country by country, so the US, Canada, Australia and the Nordics each stream a different slice of British TV.
You pick the storefronts, the depth - shows only, or every season and episode - and whether you need one snapshot or a recurring run that becomes a log of arrivals and exits. Two things the record does not carry. There is no original-channel field - the distributor slot reads BBC even on ITV and Channel 4 titles - so the first-run channel is an enrichment we join from outside. And there is no licence end date: a title is flagged Leaving Soon only in its final week.
Plans, channels and the release calendar form a second dataset, and vary as much as the catalogue.
BritBox is two businesses sharing a name. In Britain the brand belongs to ITV: the standalone UK service closed on 30 April 2024 and its library was folded into ITVX Premium, so a separate BritBox catalogue UK no longer exists. Everywhere else it is BritBox International, owned outright by BBC Studios since February 2024, when it paid GBP 255 million for ITV's half; ITV still supplies programmes under extended licensing deals. Direct billing runs through BritBox, LLC of New York in most countries and through the BritBox Australia Partnership in Australia.
The South African storefront closed in August 2024. Each storefront has its own path - /us/, /ca/, /au/, /dk/, /fi/, /no/, /se/ - and serves only viewers located in that country. The lists differ because rights do: BritBox licenses from the BBC, ITV and independent studios for a set period, territory by territory, so a series cleared for Canada can sit with another distributor in the US.

No. BritBox runs no developer programme and publishes no API documentation; its apps and website talk to an internal content service that is closed to outside callers. What is public is what a viewer in a storefront country can open without an account: the sitemaps, the title pages, the A-Z and the help centre with its coming-soon tables. That is where our data comes from. What you receive is a BritBox API of our own - an endpoint over the extracted catalogue with your field names, a storefront filter and your refresh schedule.
Not from BritBox itself. Its help centre says that because the BritBox catalog changes over time there is no downloadable or static list, and points to the BritBox shows A to Z list at /programmes, which needs no account but shows only the storefront you are in. The sitemap comes closest to a master list: it names every show, film, season and episode once, with the storefronts that carry each. We turn it into a BritBox list of series and a separate BritBox movies list per country - films sit under their own /movie/ path with no seasons - one row per title per storefront, each with its local rating and episode count.
Seven: the US, Canada, Australia, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. BritBox is not available in the UK - that service closed in April 2024 and its library moved into ITVX Premium - and South Africa closed in August 2024. The catalogues differ because rights are licensed territory by territory. As of September 2026 the sitemap lists about 520 shows and films for the US, 510 for Canada, 270 for Australia and under 80 for each Nordic storefront; just 32 run in all seven. Coronation Street and EastEnders stream only in the US, Call the Midwife everywhere but the US, Doc Martin only in Australia.
Daily, weekly or monthly, set per storefront. Weekly is the minimum if you need exits, because a title carries the Leaving Soon flag only in its final week and the record never states an end date. Daily suits soaps and dailies, which arrive within hours of the UK broadcast and usually expire within 30 days. Output is CSV, JSON, XLSX or a REST endpoint, delivered to S3, GCS, SFTP, a webhook or a database. Every row carries the storefront and the snapshot date, so successive runs stack into a history instead of overwriting each other.
Read the terms first. BritBox limits content to personal, non-commercial viewing, and its terms of use carry an explicit clause against text and data mining and web scraping, AI training included; the robots file closes only the account paths.
